Many people enjoy sports throughout their entire lives. They do not necessarily enjoy playing them, however. After a certain age, people typically watch them on television. Thousands of people all over the world watch their favorite soccer team on local television. Residents of the United states do not normally do this because football has an entirely different meanings to people who live in the United States than it does to people around the world. Although it is true that some people give up this activity entirely as they get older, they do not have to do so. There are many ways a person can enjoy participating in sports as they get older, and they do not all have to be passive. Golf and tennis are two of the most popular sports people can enjoy at almost any age.
American satirist Mark Twain once described golf as the unnecessary interruption of a perfectly good walk. Although the use of golf carts has mad caddies less popular, caddying work once provided an excellent summer job for many high school and college students. Even with the golf cart, people still get a chance to walk a small distance and practice their swing. Many people make business deals while on the gold course, and many professionals enjoy using the sport as a way to relax. For someone to get the most benefit out of this game, however, they need to walk. Walking provides good cardiovascular exercise.
Tennis is another sport that a person can enjoy into their older years. They may not be able to enjoy it into their most senior years, but many people play the game into their sixties. After that they may slow down a little bit. While it does not necessarily have the same appeal for business men as golf, it does not have the same image. If someone wants to pick the sport up, it is much cheaper to get started. An individual just needs a tennis racket and a ball. He can usually pick this up at a sporting goods story. Either sport can help someone stay in shape as they get older.
